Whispers of the heart

‘Hi Nicole,
my head is constantly running and my focus is all over the place.
I have just been offered a job abroad. I think I know what I want, but because of the doubts in my mind, I am not moving forward.
I cannot hear the whispers of my heart anymore. And I was wondering
if I could do a deep listening session with you?’
🌀
Yes of course you can!
We went into the woods together that same week.
Deep enough to feel like being away for a while.
And long enough to hear the heart again.
Sometimes life comes in with overwhelming speed.
And it can be soothing to retreat and find some peace.
So you can find your own answers again.
We went into the woods that morning with her question as our intention.
First allowed ourselves to sink into our bodies.
Leaving our minds for what they are.
Connecting deeper with all layers of ourselves.
When we were grounded, the connection to nature came naturally.
Slowly there was more space to hear her heart again.
We walked, zoomed in on her question for a bit and sensed our bodies while doing that.
Then she found her sitting spot and sat in silence for an hour,
attentively present, fully open to what wants to come.
This is called ‘presencing’ in Theory U,
a practice of pure presence and deep listening.
Letting go off expectations, labels, desires and wants for a while.
It is a beautiful practice that can clean us out.
From that deep and open connection, new insights naturally arise.
Or, like that morning, they were beautifully mirrored by nature.
A flock of birds right above her head,
a buzzard hovered still and focused in the air and attracted her attention,
a male roe deer jumped right next to her and looked straight at her before moving on ,
and two geese landed in front of her.
She got her answer in the form of signs from nature
and the feelings and insights that spontaneously emerged with these happenings.
She journaled a bit and on our way back, we reflected. She was able to give meaning to what had presented itself.
She felt calm, clear and had stronger sense of direction again.
She was seeing more and more possibilities and actually getting
very excited about the new opportunity.
She had gained enough insights to take home and process.
Including a few small steps she could take that week, towards her new goal.
3 Hours later, both tired and satisfied,
we slowly walked back to our cars.
I find it a very nurturing practice, the sensing journey.
For me personally it is a beautiful way to invite Life
into the decisions I need to make.
What about you?
Where do you go when you need to listen to your heart?

PS: I offer sensing journeys like this one in the south of the Netherlands, where I live and know the woods.
