U Journey Innovation & Sustainability

U journey is a very complete and natural framework to go through renewal, innovation, change and working more sustainably. Many large organisations have used the U Journey  to improve innovation, to achieve deep change or to move towards a more sustainable organisation. As a social entrepreneur, I guide smaller teams, start-ups, local initiatives and medium-sized companies that want to positively impact humanity and nature.

Awareness Based Natural Change

This change process requires slowing down and being fully present. Operating from the '5th gear' provides us with a lack of overview and from that speed we cannot see into the depth of the change we need. Slowing down and becoming very present allows us to create a space where we can perceive from the outer edges of ourselves, our team and our organisation. In the unconscious parts of ourselves and our teams we have blind spots. And these provide exactly the information we need to find a solution or innovation, even in complex situations.

It is these pearls that we like to discover in the U Journey.

So the depth of the U ensures that no band-aids are put on problems. It looks at the core and builds on what is good and strong within the team.

Being fully present also enables us to act and co-create from the future rather than repeating past patterns. It ensures that in innovation and change, we focus on our greatest creative flow, our highest potential or in Theory U terms: ‘your highest future possibility’.

The visible & invisible

We represent the process of the U Journey in the form of the letter U.
Because the journey dives deep and the visible as well as the invisible parts towards innovation and change, are included.

In Freud's iceberg model, the visible is above the water. That which we do, say and see, the facts, the events. The invisible, under water, is the unconscious part of yourself and your team. Theory U

The U Journey comes from Theory U, a proven framework developed by Otto Scharmer and the Presencing Institute in collaboration with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Every year they organise several U-labs, educational journeys in which Theory U can be studied, researched and experienced. I am currently attending U-lab 1x 2024, simultaneously getting certified. From the new year, I will be able to facilitate teams.

Besides many grassroots initiatives, also a lot of governments, NGOs and large organisations have used Theory U over the past 20 years to improve innovation, to achieve deep change or to move towards a more sustainable organisation. Some well-known names: United Nations, Triodos Bank, Rabobank, Center For Climate Justice, the Red Cross, Daimler, BMW, Decathlon, KLM Cargo.
